The other day, I was cleaning my apartment and wanted some background music and tv on. I got to thinking about how I used to enjoy throwing on cable tv channels that would have on movie reruns. Friends have also been telling me about how they've enjoyed putting on whatsonnow.criterionchannel.com because it takes the thinking out of the process and there's always something good on for them.
Some of the stuff that was always on the tv when I was a kid were The Three Stooges, Scooby doo, and early 2000s family-comedies.
Another thing that I really enjoy is anything in the public domain... because free stuff is awesome. So I took a look at what has entered public domain over the past few years along the lines of comedy movies and there's works from:
Charlie Chaplin
Buster Keaton
The Marx Brothers
Harold Lloyd
WC Fields
There's more, but a lot of these were people I've always wanted to watch from, but never taken the time. It's also really hard to get into the mind space of something from 95 years ago.
But having seen 's 30-seconds stream I formed the idea to put one up for laugh.town. So here it is:
It's just an endless stream of old movies that I'll enjoy putting on when doing chores around the house.
I love the old music and the goofy slapstick. All the facial acting and exaggerative nonsense just scratches my brain in the best way.
laugh.town the website is a place for standup comedy and is hugely centered around comedians and events. I hope this lil' stream shows a bit of how I'd like to stretch and challenge the scope there.
The atmosphere is the perfect place to weave between things and what has built with stream.place can likely be worked into every atproto product in one way or another?
So if you like goofy old comedy movies for free, throw on stream.place/laugh.town when ya get a chance
And if you're building in the atmosphere: make time for crossover episodes
